Nobody in Damascus argues with the nickname. This is Trail Town USA because the trails genuinely converge here, seven of them, including the two everyone knows: the Appalachian Trail walks straight through town on the sidewalk, and the Virginia Creeper Trail crosses it along the old railbed. Spring brings the northbound thru-hikers, sunburned and ravenous, and the town has spent decades perfecting the art of feeding them. Every May, on the weekend after Mother's Day, Trail Days turns a village of a few blocks into the largest celebration of the Appalachian Trail anywhere, a reunion complete with a hiker parade down the main street. Our Damascus design is built on the junction itself: two trails crossing in a clean X, boot prints on one path and bike tires on the other, the green ridges of the Mount Rogers high country rising behind.
