The clop of hooves is still a working sound in Lexington, where horse-drawn carriages carry visitors past storefronts that have stood since the early 1800s. This valley town took its name in 1778, borrowed from a Massachusetts battlefield while the Revolution was still on, and it has been soaked in history ever since. Two colleges anchor the place, so the brick sidewalks fill each fall with cadets and undergraduates, and the coffee-shop conversations run long. Those sidewalks are an attraction in their own right, worn smooth and studded with pavers honoring local figures, and nearly every street ends in a view of mountains. Our Lexington design works from street level: a carriage rolling over brick, storefronts leaning close on either side, and the Blue Ridge stacked behind it all in long blue layers. This is a town best taken in at three miles an hour, a fact the horses have always understood. Local Lexington businesses will show up right here on this page as they come aboard ShirtMap.
