Two rivers built Harpers Ferry, and two rivers nearly unbuilt it, flood after flood, until the town simply learned to live above the waterline. Here the Shenandoah meets the Potomac in a gap through the Blue Ridge, and the view down the water has been stopping travelers since Thomas Jefferson declared it worth a voyage across the Atlantic. History concentrated itself in these few steep blocks: John Brown raided the federal armory here in 1859, and the town changed hands again and again in the war that followed. Above the old streets, a stone church stands on the hillside as if keeping watch. Through the middle of everything runs the Appalachian Trail, past the headquarters of the organization that tends it; thru-hikers call this the trail's psychological halfway point, where the whole journey starts to feel real. Our Harpers Ferry design draws the meeting of the waters from above, two rivers joining at the point of town, the church spire on the hill, a white trail blaze marking the way through. Local Harpers Ferry businesses will make their appearance on this page as they join ShirtMap, right at the confluence.

The ShirtMap Harpers Ferry shirt is currently being designed. When it is ready, it will be sold right on this page.
