There is a reason film crews keep finding Berlin. Its downtown is a run of late Victorian brick, awnings and lampposts and storefronts that never got modernized into anonymity, and the whole district sits on the National Register of Historic Places. A few years back the town was voted America's Coolest Small Town in a national contest, an award Berliners mention with a shrug, because they already knew.

A short drive east, the barrier island's wild ponies wander the dunes, unbothered by anyone's opinion of coolness. That pairing is Berlin in a nutshell: polished brick on one side, salt-crusted wilderness on the other, and locals moving easily between the two, farmers market one morning, beach the next.

Our Berlin design stacks the two worlds: the brick storefront row along the bottom like a foundation, and above it a wild pony standing in dune grass, mane lifted in the sea wind.
