Damariscotta has been an oyster town for longer than almost anywhere in America has been anything. Shell heaps along the river record oyster feasts going back more than two thousand years, and the cold tidal water still grows some of the best oysters on the East Coast, harvested within sight of the brick Main Street built after the fire of 1845. Then, every October, this dignified old river town does something gloriously ridiculous: it hollows out half-ton pumpkins, bolts outboard motors to them, and races them across the harbor while the whole midcoast cheers from the bridge. Our Damariscotta design puts both truths on one shirt: the oyster, rendered clean and proud, riding above a pumpkin hull making its wake. Serious about the river, never about itself.
