Some towns smell like nothing in particular. Lititz smells like chocolate, most days, drifting from works that have been making it here for well over a century. That is the newer layer. The older one: Moravian settlers founded Lititz in 1756, and for its first hundred years you could not live in town unless you belonged to the congregation, which kept the square, the church, and the sturdy stone houses looking much as intended. Between faith and chocolate came the pretzel. In 1861 the country's first commercial pretzel bakery opened here in an old stone house, and Lititz has claimed the twist ever since. It is a town of tidy eccentricity, serious about its history and pleasantly unserious about nearly everything else. Our Lititz design puts the pretzel front and center, rendered bold and golden above a hint of the Moravian square's rooflines, with steam curling up as if something sweet is baking a block away. As businesses around Lititz join ShirtMap, they take their place on this page.
