About Milford
Milford keeps its wonders slightly hidden. The town itself is a tidy grid of leafy streets near the upper Delaware, but walk into the surrounding woods and the land breaks open: hemlock ravines, mossy ledges, waterfalls dropping through the shade a short walk from somebody's back porch.
Above town stands Grey Towers, a stone chateau finished in 1886, the family home of Gifford Pinchot, the country's first chief forester and twice governor of Pennsylvania. The American conservation movement has real roots on that hillside, which gives Milford a claim few towns its size can make: the idea of caring for forests as a public trust was nurtured, in part, right here. It suits the place, a town that has always understood the value of trees.
On the shirt
Our Milford design layers the whole arrangement: a waterfall ribboning down through hemlocks, the turreted chateau on its hill, the Delaware sliding past below.
