Night still means something in Tupper Lake. Daylight belongs to older traditions. This was a hard-working lumber town, and every summer a woodsmen's festival brings back the log rolling, ax throwing, and chainsaw carving to prove nobody has forgotten how. In between there is the lake itself, where the call of loons carries across the water at dusk like the town's own broadcast.
