Harwich, MA Shirts

The commercial cranberry industry started in Harwich, and that is not town-booster embroidery. In 1846 a local sea captain raised the first cranberry crop ever grown for sale, on a bog near a pond in the north of town. His cousin soon bred the dark early-ripening variety growers still plant, and within a decade Harwich led the young industry it had invented. The bogs are still here, crimson at fall harvest, quiet green the rest of the year. Down on the sound side sits the port village and its almost perfectly round harbor, a former salt pond that spent the 1880s ringed by a horse-trotting track before a channel was cut and the masts moved in. Our Harwich design honors both inheritances: one oversized cranberry, deep red and unashamed, hanging like a harvest moon above the circle of the harbor. Farm and port on a single shirt, which is more or less Harwich's whole biography. Harwich businesses show their colors below as they come onto ShirtMap.

The ShirtMap Harwich shirt is currently being designed. When it is ready, it will be sold right on this page.
