The land runs out at Provincetown, and everything interesting piles up at the end. Start with the oldest claim: the Mayflower anchored here first, in November 1620, and the compact that organized the colony was signed in this harbor, weeks before anyone reached Plymouth. The granite monument above town commemorates that stop, and it remains the tallest all-granite structure in the country. Then came the painters. An art school opened here in 1899, and the colony it seeded has never stopped working, the oldest continuous art colony in America. Through it all, Provincetown became what it proudly is: a year-round home and a long-standing haven for LGBTQ people, where the rainbow flags along the front street are not seasonal decor but the town's actual colors. Add the pier with its fishing boats and the great dunes on the back shore, and you have more identity per square mile than anywhere else on the Cape. Our Provincetown design lines it all up at land's end: monument, pier, dune ridge, and a rainbow riding the sky above the harbor.
